Oyster mushroom in willow, nameko in oak and black poplar mushroom in poplar: just a few of the mushroom species that were inoculated this week. The logs were the leftovers from a forest thinning in a couple of small woodplots and just enough for a days work. Three young men involved in developing food forests (Voedselbos kabouters) and interested in edible mushrooms were my assistents and together we inoculated about 30 logs. Iwein, one of the assistents, a tree surgeon in his free time, used his razor sharp branch saw to cut of the jagged end of an oak log. Strong arms and sturdy strokes ensured a clean cut. A good way to end a useful and sociable day.
