Edible Wood Farm Journal: 2026 (2)
Inoculation season is about to start. March the first, Inoculation Day. No inoculation without plugs. Last Wednesday I went on a plug tour and returned with 100,000 pre-ordered spawn plugs. My VW caddy was filled to the ceiling with boxes and crates of fungi. Usually that is a bad omen but I was pleased to have it all with me. The mycelium in the spawn plugs keeps on growing if it gets the chance, not a good idea in a car. Cooled plugs is the best way to keep the mycelium strong and hungry. Now all of my refridgerators are full of fungi. Once the plugs have entered their food source the mycelium will grow into the logs, using the sugars as an energy supply. Sixty plugs for each log. That is an average. Time to get to work! Just six weeks to turn the logs into Edible Wood!
