Edible Wood Farm Journal: 2026 (9)
Each year up till now I need 20 m3 of oak logs. That is 20 stacks of logs 1 meter long piled 1 meter high. I inoculate the largest and/or crooked logs at the Edible Wood Farm. The rest of the logs are inoculated by care farmer / market garden partners under my supervision. This year there was a notable increase in the number of these new colleagues. As a result I will need more logs next year.
One small truckload of logs is alot for me but still peanuts in the world of forestry. I want to expand to 50m3 next year so that I can supply my inoculation partners and also another edible wood commercial colleague. Despite there being a lot of suitable forests and having a broadbased network, my attempts to find a suitable log supplier have not (yet) been succesful. I have tried forest owners, land agents, estate managers and urban foresters. Big and small. This week tree surgeons are on the list. It is a puzzle to me that it is so difficult to arrange. A challenge to overcome!
